Grain Storage and Liquid Fertilizer

Starting in 2023 we partnered with a large cooperative out the Kansas area to build a large double purpose facility. The project spanned a two year period starting with ground breaking in late 2023 and finishing late 2025.

The grain storage facility consisted of cement slip bins and a large hoop flat storage building that combined to provide up to 5,700,000 bushels of grain capacity. The electrical consisted of two 3,000 amp 480V services and a total motor load of 4,777 horse power. Motor control was installed using Allen Bradley ethernet motor control centers, Schneider motor control panels, and Schneider wall mount VFDs controlled over ethernet for the large motors. The facility utilized roughly 330 sensors to monitor plug conditions, grain levels, grain flow, gate positions, and emergency shut offs. The entire operation is controlled by a Rockwell Controllogix PLC programmed by Jakes Electric. All hazard monitoring and bin temp cables were installed using CMC systems. Other electrical systems installed were general lighting, sight lighting, network infrastructure, HVAC, truck scales, PLC panels, and grain probes.

The liquid fertilizer facility consisted of three large storage bins and six micro bins along with a building for loading and unloading. The facility was designed to provide up to 3,500,000 gallons of liquid fertilizer storage. The electrical consisted a 800 amp 480V service and a total motor load of 445 horse power. All product devices, safety devices, and controls were wired to be controlled by PLC.
